Everybody’s doing it - well moms and dads in increasing numbers are doing it! They are wearing their baby!
Baby slings and baby carriers are taking families by storm - they are the newest ‘must have’ baby gear. And leading the way are famous people like Brad and Angelina - they both wear baby carriers.
Baby has become a new (and beautiful) fashion accessory. There are many types and styles to choose from, including slings, wraps and back frame carriers. And they are created as much for style as they are for comfort and convenience.
Are you next to join the trend? Their popularity is not going to diminish anytime soon - and here is our list of 5 things that will keep them high in demand…
1. Freedom. Looking after a baby is full-time work. But a busy mom and dad know that there are other things to do as well. Carriers ‘free up’ your hands allowing you to wear your baby (keeping them close to you) and give you the freedom to do other things as well.
2. Comfort. Baby carriers are comfortable for both the baby and for the parent carrying the child. Once you get used to wearing the carrier and see how comfortable they are to wear for you and your baby you will probably wear your carrier a fair bit. Today’s modern carriers are ultra comfortable since they are designed to distribute weight across the shoulders and back of the person doing the carrying which greatly enhances the comfort.
3. Carrier can be used for newborn babies (some types of carriers) and they can also be used to carry older children (especially useful on a full day outing to a museum or to the zoo). This means that the carrier can have a long-life for families.
4. Reduces baby crying. A content baby is a happy baby. And a happy baby cries less. Holding a baby close to you increase their contentment - there is no better way to hold a baby close than using a baby carrier.
5. For moms that are breastfeeding their baby a sling carrier makes it easy to breastfeed anywhere with the confidence of knowing that the sling is providing mom and baby with privacy. Baby carriers that you can buy usually have a generous amount of fabric in the “hammock” where the baby is held so that it is very easy to breastfeed on both sides just by moving baby from one side to another without having to take baby out of the wrap
If you are a celebrity-watcher - and now a days who isn’t then you’ll know that movie stars, athletes and others of the famous set are wearing their babies in baby carriers. People are wearing the carriers because they look good - but more importantly because they are so practical and comfortable.
Moms and even more and more so now - dads are getting in on the fun, comfort and happiness of ‘wearing their baby’.
Most women suffer pain in their lives and sometimes it may feel as if they are being punished for being female. Even if you have irregular cycles, you can still get hit with menstrual cramps, though some women get them worse than others.
Unfortunately, there are other groups of women who suffer with PCOS (the most common hormonal disorder amongst women of reproductive age), or endometriosis and the stomach cramps are even more uncomfortable. There are women who experience no discomfort at all when they are on their cycle and others for whom it is a dreaded time every month.
The problem is getting a menstrual cramp relief remedy that you can guarantee will work every month. Often the easiest way to help stop this is complaint to just take a pain relief tablet.
A tablet by the name of ‘Pamprin’ is used by many women who say it works wonders for them, possibly because it was formulated for just that one reason. Although many women prefer not to take any form of medication, this does you no credit if you cannot do anything for days each month.
There should be no guilt about wanting to live a normal life each month so why put up with pain? Often the cramps are just one aspect of the discomfort because they can also be accompanied by nausea and the feeling of eating a very large meal.
I just didn’t want to continue enduring the pains almost every month so I started looking around for menstrual cramp relief remedies. There were times I thought my stomach was being crushed whilst others there was little discomfort at all!
I have tried all sorts including quite recently a heat pad which seems to work but I do have to vary where I position it for it to be effective. If you have tried pain relief pills and don’t always find they work then it may be worth you trying a heat pad to relieve your discomfort.
This may not be that effective for women that exhibit painful and disabling menstrual cramps each cycle: they might want something more powerful. The problem worsens when every month regular as clockwork you have to call in sick from your job.
If this has happened to you, you should make an appointment to talk to your doctor about finding menstrual cramp relief. Your doctor may suggest using the contraceptive pill because he knows just how good it is at helping women who suffer each month with stomach cramps.
Your doctor will probably have a number of available options to talk to you about because if you are trying for a baby you can’t use the pill now can you? You will eventually find a remedy that works for you; it is just a matter of time.
Don’t lose sleep trying to decide which Toddler Travel Bed is right for your child. It used to be when parents took their kids overnight to grandmas that grandma and grandpa had a second-hand crib that the toddler could sleep in. Or when traveling on vacation parents would rely on some crummy old crib setup by the hotel.
Not any longer. Parents want their child to be comfortable and safe when they travel - even if the travel is just an overnight at the grandparents’ home. If you have ever been away from home with your child for at least one night you have probably considered a Toddler Travel Bed. There are lots available on the market - some will suit your family better than others. Here is help for you to choose one that best fits your lifestyle and budget.
1. Lightweight - make sure that the bed is light enough to carry. When you are travelling with your toddler think about strategies to keep your load light. One way to do this is to buy a travel bed that is light. It should certainly weigh less than 6 pounds or under 3 kilograms. The lighter the better.
2. Easy to carry and load into your car. The bed you select should have its own travel case and when packed away it should be no larger than 24×8x8(in.) or 60×20x20(cm.). No matter where your travels with your child take you - on a plane on a cruise ship or to grandpa’s house you have to carry all the gear and it all has to fit into tight spaces - like your car trunk or as checked baggage on a plane. A small, compact bed will help with this.
3. Easy to set up - the last thing you want is when you get to your destination is having to fumble in setting up the bed for your child. It should be a simple process to set up and a simple process to fold it back up again when you are finished. Set up time and fold up time should take less than 1 minute, and it should be able to be done by one person.
4. Easy access to your child - being able to reach in to pick up your child with ease should be a prime consideration when purchasing a toddler travel bed. Look for one with a zip down side panel that can be lowered for quick access to your toddler.
5. Good air ventilation - a good bed will provide for good air flow for your child. Look for one that has mesh side panels that will allow for good air flow helping to keep your child comfortable.
6. Foam mattress. A toddler travel bed with a foam mattress helps to keep the bed light - more importantly it will be comfortable for your child.
7. Warranties. Think of the purchase of a toddler travel bed as an investment in your family’s peace, happiness and safety. Make sure that the bed you purchase will be used for many years. Bed manufacturers of well built beds will provide a life time guarantee - make sure that your bed has this kind of guarantee. In addition, the retailer that you buy from is important as well. If you get the bed home and it is not what you expected - will the retailer take it back - with no arguments or difficulties?

Tough decision trying to decide which baby jogging stroller is right for your family. More and more parents with young children have adopted a healthy lifestyle. They want to be active and they want to do it with their baby. Thousands of families have invested in a baby jogging stroller for their baby - and maybe now is the time for your family to do the same. There are so many choices that finding the one that is best for you is not an easy task. Don`t let that stop you and your partner from staying fit and getting fit. Look at these 10 things to do when deciding which jogging stroller is best for you.
1. Choose an aluminum framed stroller. Your choices will be strollers made with either metal tube frames or aluminum frames. You want your stroller to weigh less than 25 pounds. Metal tube frame strollers are much heavier than those made with an aluminum frame. Choosing an aluminum frame provides you with a lighter, easier to push stroller, and they are also longer lasting, stronger and more resistant to rust and corrosion.
2. 16 inch wheels. A jogging stroller has three large wheels - one in front and two in back. They achieve a smooth ride for passenger and are easy to push for jogger by reducing rolling resistance. 16 inch air-filled wheels provide less rolling resistance and therefore a smoother ride and push.
3. Comfort for baby. You want your baby to be as comfortable as possible. The seat should be padded and made of a lightweight, breathable fabric. During your jog your baby may decide to take a nap. Look for a stroller that reclines by at least 25%.
4. Sun protection. All jogging strollers have sun canopies to provide shade to your child. Direct sunshine into the baby’s face cause the baby to be very uncomfortable, unhappy, and we are all conscious of the negative impact of the sun’s rays. For best sun protection choose one that has a sun canopy that fully rotates to provide shade to your baby no matter what the angle of the sun.
5. Child safety. Safety is number 1 whenever it comes to your baby. Make sure that the stroller you choose keeps your baby safely strapped into their seat. Look for a stroller with a five-point harness. The stroller should have both a hand brake, and a parking brake (engaged by flipping a bar with your feet).
6. Fits in trunk of car. The process for folding should be simple. Many strollers have a trigger on each side of the handlebar that allow the stroller to easily fold into itself. Most car trunks can hold a folded stroller if it is smaller than 25 x 45 x 18 (inches). In order to fold it into a smaller dimension find a stroller that has one-touch pop-off wheels that are easy to remove for storage.
7. Adjustable handlebar. If you are 6 foot 4 inches tall and your partner is 5 foot 4 inches tall, and you are both going to be using the stroller, the handlebar on your stroller should be easily adjustable (with a simple push of a button) making it comfortable for each of you when jogging.
8. Make sure the baby will not outgrow the stroller. The stroller is not just for use for a year. You want to make sure that you maximize its use over several years. Make sure that the seating area is large enough for your child as they grow (it should be 24 or 25 inches high in the seating area) and make sure that the stroller is rated to handle your child`s weight as they get older (look for a weight rating of up to 80 pounds).
9. Make sure the manufacturer and retailer stand behind their product. You should expect to have many years of enjoyment from your stroller for your family. Shop for a stroller that provides a solid long term warranty on the frame (5 years is good) and at least a 1 year warranty on the seat material. And when you purchase your stroller make sure that you have at least 30 days to try it out - if it isn`t all that you had expected it to be - make sure that you can return it for a refund.
10. Look for a stroller that fits into your budget. Jogging strollers range widely in price. Look for the features and benefits that you need for your stroller and then expect to pay somewhere in the range of $280 to $900.
Use this list of ten things to do to list which stroller features are most important to your family. Then use your list to help you to purchase the stroller that best meets your needs.
A lot of importance is placed upon what you name a child and and bad name can haunt him or her for all rest of his or her lives. Need I remind of the Johnny Cash song about A Boy Named Sue that was given to a sleeping baby boy by a father who did not stick around to see the traumatizing affects.
Would Sue have made the same choice if he had the opportunity? Possibly but most probably not. I have on occassion thought that a child should be able to pick his or her own name regardless. Can you imagine sleeping baby Kid Rock or would napping baby Scary Spice?
I remember the naming ceremony for my little one. My wife had undergone 12 hours in labor and was dressed to the 9’s - NOT. They wheeled her out of the recovery room with all the fan fair due a new mother. NOT! While she held our sleeping newborn an administrative lady was there, clipboard in hand demanind to know right then what was the kid’s name? We panicked. We didn’t remember the name.
First time moms and dads have been known to hand a baby a name that defies logic. The googability of a name is a hot topic for some obsessive parents. Their feeling is that the searchability of a name may become important in the years to come when job hunting.
A traditional name is always a safe bet. A bizarre name will cause lots of trouble especially for a young adult. Frank Zappa named two of his children Dweezil and Moon Unit. Maybe celebrity children can get by with weird names.
A good name should be easy and simple to say and spell. Our English language is often hard for some to learn because of the odd pronunciations and spellings. Use a S for a S sound and not a C. Parents have few opportunities to exert complete control but this is one.
If you have a large closely knit family naming your child will surely upset someone. Maybe Great Aunt Pooky was hoping before she died you would find it in your hearts to name your napping baby after her. Be sure to do what you want. Don’t cave to the pressures family can bring upon you.
Honestly, just name the baby girl or boy something that you think works. It must work for you and work for the child too! Can you see yourself calling from the downstairs — Optimus Prime get down here and take the trash out. Ultimately it should be a name that helps you and your baby sleep all through the night.
Are you planning a baby shower? Perhaps you are in need of a theme. That’s right, these days you don’t just throw a baby shower, it has to have a theme too. There are many decisions to be made but the theme should get first consideration. Many baby showers these days have cartoon-inspired themes, and one of the most popular is the Winnie the Pooh baby shower.
First of all, there are thousands of theme ideas out there. How do you know which one is the right one for the baby? It may seem silly putting so much thought into it considering the baby isn’t going to be there, really, but baby showers are a big event in the preparation for a new child. So I set out to find the perfect theme for my girlfriend’s shower.
While you may think that the invitation picking should be easy, think again. Because theme baby showers are so popular now there are hundreds of invitation designs. Pooh invitations are quite popular so there are many different kinds. What you choose depends on your personal preference, and which invitation design best suits the baby shower you would like to have.
I was pretty sure that I wouldn’t use the baby Pooh designs. These characters are really cute and they do fit the overall event but these Winnie the Pooh baby shower invitation weren’t my style. They are adorable but I really wanted something that was a little more personal. This left me with two other options to consider.
Now I had my invitations narrowed down to just two, regular Pooh and classic Pooh. One was bright and suited young children, the other softer and perfect for babies. It was difficult since I loved them both but I went with classic Pooh as I thought it was more suitable for a nice, serene, baby shower.
So consider your selection carefully when you are shopping for invitations. Do you want the more serene classic Pooh theme for your baby shower, or the brighter baby friendly cartoon theme? There is no wrong choice here, just choose what you like the most.
When push came to shove, I had to opt for the Winnie the Pooh baby shower invitations that resembled the Pooh I loved as a child. The choice wasn’t very easy because I really loved classic design but I think that I made the right choice.
I always like to ask my clients, “Will your financial planner be willing to pay your long term care bills, will they have access to good quality Home Health Care Providers?” Many lawyers and advisors are now reluctant to recommend against Long Term Care Insurance for fear of law suits later on, from children, when hundreds of thousands of dollars were required to pay for their parents long term care bills. Planners who fail to recommend coverage are more times than not, unaware of the real RISK of needing care one day.
The senior has now become the GREATEST financial risk that Americans face today. The majority of them are unaware of it because let’s face it: No One wants to think about needing Long Term Care. It is going to happen to someone else! Long term care bills are the biggest reason for financial failures among seniors today. Yet there are a lot of Financial Planners and Investment advisers who will say that you don’t need Long Term Care Insurance.
If you already have a lot of money, perhaps you don’t! The question is: Would it be a smart decision to have this coverage? What we are seeing today are many Financial Planners split on the subject of LTC Insurance. You will hear some say that if you have any resources you should not be without it, that it is an integral part of financial planning, while others think if you have enough money you should self-insure. Who is right?
Every financial adviser I talk with would recommend long term care coverage if he knew in advance that his client would need several years of long term care. Do the math. In a state where long term care bills are averaging $170 per day, and the average premium is $4000 a year for a couple, aged 60, and they live another 20 years, they have paid out $80,000 in premiums for the peace of mind that they will not go broke. Without the insurance, they could end up paying over $80,000 in less than two years for ONE OF THEM on the advice from a Financial Planner telling them that they DON’T NEED IT! It must be concluded that Financial advisers who recommend against LTC Insurance figure you are not going to need care since they would recommend you obtain coverage if they knew you were going to have to spend several hundred thousand dollars. You should find out from the adviser what is the BASIS for their prediction? Also, be aware that advisers are sales people. They are in the business of making you money.
If you purchase Long Term Care Insurance, you have less money for them to manage! The decision is yours. At this point in your life, are you more interested in making a few more thousand dollars a year or are you more interested in protecting what you have already earned from the most DEVASTATING financial risk that people face in America today? One of the biggest financial mistakes a person can make today is needing Long Term Care and having no coverage! Is this a mistake you want to take a chance on making? Seek out a LTC Insurance Specialist to help you make the best informed decision for you and your family. Remember, your Financial Planner or adviser is not going to pay your long term care bills. You will!
Recent studies have shown that some BPA is residual in baby bottles and can also leach into food prepared in these types of bottles. Normal use which includes sterilization by high temperature steam, microwave ovens and dish washing can cause a break down of polycarbonate and the release of BPA in foods.
Baby foods stored in cans usually suffer long exposure to the polycarbonate inner lining. Again BPA found in the polycarbonate will migrate to the stored food. Normally foods removed from polycarbonate lined cans are covered by PVC derived plastic wraps, another known carcinogen.
Pregnant women should avoid BPA derived polycarbonate bottles and refrain from eating canned foods. The plastic lining in food cans contain polycarbonate. BPA is known to mimic the behavior of DES, an artificial estrogen banned for use by pregnant and nursing mothers.
The Society of Plastics Industry created the resin identification codes for the purpose of plastic recycling. These codes are located on the labels of plastic baby bottles or imprinted on the bottom of the bottles. The SPI code is a general code but different states implement them differently, in any case it is good to know that BPA is found in at least 50% of plastic resins.
The first of the SPI codes represents the plastic resin PET or PETA and is represented by the number 1 inside the recycle triangle on the label or bottom of the container. These have no known hazards and are supposedly BPA free. The second SPI code represents the plastic resin HDPE and is represented by the number 2 inside the recycling triangle. HDPE has no known hazards and is used heavily in plastic toys.
The third plastic is called PVC and we know this to be commonly used in PVC pipes, but it can also be found in plastic food wraps, so look for the number three in the recycling triangle. Low Density Polyethylene is commonly known as LDPE and is plastic number 4, there are no known hazards as in BPA derived plastics, one reason why it is used in plastic food packages and soft sport bottles.
Polypropylene is a BPA free plastic and is plastic number 5 or PP in the SPI code. You can find this plastic used in food containers for storing butter and yogurt. Following PP is the plastic used commonly in egg cartons, known as PS, using the SPI code number 6.
With the advent of new resin combinations, the SPI code included the number 7 designated as OTHER to differentiate these plastics from SPI codes 1 - 6. Many plastics were clumped under SPI code 7 including BPA derived polycarbonates and natural non-hazardous plastics.
It is said that everyone loves a baby. They bring about a certain attitude when it comes to the surrounding family, friends, and co-workers. When the new addition arrives, they are so popular that everyone wants to see them and bring them a present. Then the question arises on what to buy the little one. Do you purchase something that the newborn needs? So you splurge on an extravagant keepsake? The answer is a simple one. You bring along a gift basket that has items for the newborn, the proud parents, and maybe a little something for the rest of the family.
For starters, a baby gift does not have to be in a basket. Use creativity and make the container something the new parents can get a lot of use out of. Many baskets have been made using everything from, diaper bags, baby bathtubs, bassinets, and special keepsake boxes. Another option is to create a unique container by tying diapers together; it could definitely be the favorite gift for a new mom and dad. In the end, whatever is choosen will be great if care and attention to detail are considered.
When designing the inside of a baby gift basket, most designers really cannot go wrong. There is such a wide variety of items that can be included. One option is to ask the soon to be parents if they have a registry anywhere. If they have, presents can be choosen from their own list. If not think of a theme that could be used. For example if a baby bathtub is chosen as a container, it could be filled up with shampoos, lotions, bath toys, a water thermometer, and washrags. Other fun things that could be added are baby bath towels that have been embroidered or a little bath robe. These gifts are sure to always please.
Colors and shapes are another important factor when designing your present. Choose colors that complement each other. For a boy, bright primary colors would look wonderful together. For a girl, pinks and purples pop off of against each other. It can vary from these with different palettes, but do try to use more than one color. Shapes should also vary. It would be important not to use all squares or circles in your package. Have fun choosing items and adding those little extras that make a present stand out.
These types of packages are very much in demand. Not only by parents, but grandparents, friends of families having babies, and other relatives. Businesses are also known to buy these for their employees, as well as obstetricians for their patients. These are truly a present for everyone, from anyone. They are affordable, making them a logical choice and they are practical, packed full of things that every new mom and dad need.
It is important when creating a baby gift basket for a baby shower that it be put to good use. Think of a unique and useful container, or choose one that was specified. Pick out some favorite things the recipients may need or just want. Remember to coordinate colors and choose a variety of shapes for the best appearance. Stuff a container with all of your awesome choices and any sender can enjoy all of the thanks that are given for being so thoughtful and kind.
When you first bring home your newborn baby there are only a few essential things you really need to begin with. He or she will need somewhere to sleep, clothing, a method of transport and something to bathe in. The most important factor when choosing things for your baby is safety.
Clothing. Your baby is not in the least bit interested in the latest designer fashions so don’t waste money unnecessarily. There be plenty of time for that in the coming years! Comfort and safety are the order of the day, so soft machine washable fabrics are a good choice. Go for cotton clothing rather than synthetic or wool as this is less likely to irritate your baby’s sensitive skin. For the first couple of months babygros and vests are ideal. And maybe a cardigan, depending on the time of year.
Sleeping. In the beginning a baby can sleep quite comfortably in a baby basket or carry cot - it’s not even unheard of for a baby to sleep in a drawer (as long as it has been removed from the chest or cupboard it comes from!). The mattress should be thin and fit tightly, and be covered in a cotton sheet. Do not use a pillow and cot bumpers are not really suitable either as they can stop air circulating properly resulting in your baby getting too hot. For coverings, choose cotton cellular blankets and don’t have any fringes or loose ends on them as these could be a choking hazard, particularly as the baby gets a bit older.
Bathing and Changing. Something that is useful but in no way essential is a changing table. A plastic changing mat that you can use on the floor or on top of a solid chest or table is more than adequate. To start with your baby can be bathed in a sink but if choosing a baby bath with a stand make sure it is sturdy. Alternatively you can get baby baths which fit across your bath.
Travel. You will need a car seat if traveling by car. Do not buy a second hand car seat unless you can be 100% certain that it has never been in an accident. The damage might not always be obvious to the eye and it is essential that safety of the seat has not been compromised. Small babies love to be carried in baby slings when you are walking around as they get huge comfort from being able to hear your heartbeat and feeling the warmth of your body. When using a pram or pushchair you will need one that goes flat to begin with. If you want to save money then look for a buggy that can recline to a flat position. There aren’t a lot of these around but if you find one it will last you from birth until your baby no longer needs a buggy.
